Estonian Plywood AS is an Estonian manufacturer of birch plywood with an international customer base, supplying products to markets worldwide. The plywood production process involves the use of various resins, adhesives, and other chemicals, some of which remain in the final product even after curing. For this reason, product safety and transparency regarding composition are of strategic importance to the company.

Within the LIFE Fit for REACH-2 project, cooperation with the company focused on the systematic development of chemical management and on gaining a clearer overview of regulatory requirements related to plywood production. The company’s chemical inventory, comprising approximately 200 substances, was updated with additional data fields reflecting hazard properties in relation to specific regulatory requirements. This provides a stronger basis for preparing product declarations and responding to customer inquiries.

Experts from Hendrikson DGE supported the company in mapping and fulfilling the requirements of various product declarations and provided technical assistance in calculating the content of hazardous substances in the final product, including the assessment of formaldehyde levels in finished birch plywood. Attention was also given to the safe use of household chemical products used in larger quantities within the company.

As a result, Estonian Plywood AS has strengthened its chemical risk management, improved its readiness to meet evolving regulatory requirements, and enhanced its ability to position itself in the market as an environmentally responsible manufacturer.
