LIFE FitForREACH-2 partners meet National REACH Helpdesks
Why do so many companies still struggle with chemical compliance when guidance is everywhere?
That question was at the heart of an online meeting held on 8 October 2026, which brought together representatives of the national REACH Helpdesks from the Baltic States and partners of the LIFE FitForREACH-2 project.
The aim of the meeting was to strengthen cooperation in supporting companies across Central and Eastern Europe in navigating chemical regulations. Throughout the discussion, participants exchanged experiences and lessons learned, reviewed practical tools and guidance materials, and explored compliance challenges and emerging issues faced by companies in different countries. They also discussed opportunities for closer regional collaboration in the future.
Participants noted that, although many guidance documents, tools, and support mechanisms have been developed for industry, compliance ultimately depends on companies’ willingness and capacity to act. Many SMEs have limited staff and resources and often prioritize day-to-day survival over regulatory compliance.
Closer cooperation between national helpdesks could help address these challenges by facilitating the exchange of practical experience, successful approaches, and existing support materials, including guidance documents, training resources, and awareness-raising materials. Such collaboration would reduce duplication of effort and improve the efficiency of support activities across countries.
Participants agreed that the key challenge is no longer a lack of information or guidance. Rather, it is finding effective ways to reach companies and ensure that the available knowledge is understood, implemented, and translated into everyday business practice.
